Community Grants
ANC 1B invites applications for funding of projects, activities, and events that serve and benefit the 1B community. All funded events must take place within Ward 1. If you’re interested in applying for funding, please contact your SMD Commissioner or email 1b@anc.dc.gov to discuss your idea and find the best mechanism for achieving it.
Review Guidelines:
All grants need to meet the statutory requirements governing how ANCs spend money. The Commission will work with you to determine which expenses are allowed and which path works best for your proposed activity.
In awarding grants, the Commission is guided by a document from the Office of ANCs (OANC) called OANC General Guidance 2023-006 (rev. 2024): ANC Guidance on Grants. (Additional information on direct expenditures appears in OANC Form 105 – Advisory Neighborhood Commission Direct Expenditures.) You can (but you don’t need to!) review these documents yourself to understand how we will approach your application.
Grant process:
Apply: Complete the official OANC grant application and submit it to both OANC (oancs@dc.gov) and ANC 1B (1b@anc.dc.gov).
Approval Process
OANC reviews applications within 14 days for compliance.
Applications must be submitted at least two weeks before the next ANC 1B monthly meeting. Our strong preference is for applications to be submitted at least one week in advance of the next meeting of the Committee on Community Engagement (see calendar), which vets sponsorship applications and makes recommendations to the full Commission.
ANC 1B will consider the request at a public meeting after receiving OANC review and guidance.
